We passed 8000 members worldwide this week! Just 4 years ago we were about 1000 members.

Warmshowers.org is now in Spanish!
We're so proud to announce that Warmshowers.org is now available in Spanish. If any of you have ever tried to use a website written in another language, you'll know how incredibly hard it is to do, even if you know a bit of that language. We're hoping that we can now increase the number of Warmshowers hosts in the Spanish-speaking world.
When things have settled down a bit we hope to proceed with our next translation, French, for which quite a number of member-volunteers have already signed up.
It's a huge job to do this kind of a translation... It doesn't mean just sitting down and translating pages. The actual interface of the site has to change, including forms and menus and maps. Please give a big hand to our wonderful volunteer member-translators including among others:
MAGINITA, sambinomio, dekaru, omolinos, jambomambo, Eduardo Aguilar.

We always want to know about problems with the site
If you have trouble with the Warmshowers.org site, even if you think it's "user error", please let us know. We want to make it better, and can't solve these problems unless we hear about them. Just send us a note using the contact page.

The Search Function has been improved
The Warmshowers.org search function has been improved. The default is now to search for members (by their name or by the city they live in). You can also click on the "content" or "usernames" tabs to search content on the website or to search for members by their username. Try it out.

Personal Security
We haven't had any reported security issues yet with Warmshowers.org, but with a large member base, and with time of course, one could occur. Since Warmshowers.org is just a mechanism to help like-minded members help each other, and has no way to protect you or guarantee the "niceness" of members, you'll have to use your own head and create your own rules for dealing with members who contact you. You must use your own good sense in dealing with members who contact you or stay with you (or with whom you stay).
Here are a couple of things that I typically say in email to members who are concerned with their personal security (when hosting other members):
- You are never under any obligation to let a Warmshowers member into your home if you feel uncomfortable. Sometimes it may be the context of their initial email requesting hospitality, or it may be that they have written very little about themselves in their account. Always remember that your safety and that of your family is of paramount importance.
